Recently we got the opportunity to check out a local gem, Urban Cottage. Let me tell you what ladies, this place was amazing! It’s like a little piece of Waco, Texas right here in our beautiful Fort Wayne! (All you Joanna Gaines/Fixer Upper peeps know exactly what I’m talkin’ about!) It is a family owned business featuring almost 60% – yes, that’s right! 60%- of local, Fort Wayne, artists! They have everything from handmade soy candles, mugs, seasonal holiday decor, modern/farmhouse, vintage decor, and even some furniture. There is seriously something here for almost anyone of any taste.
One of the first things we noticed and loved was the hospitality. We were greeted with warm smiles and hello’s. It was like seeing old friends again, only you’d just walked in the door. Sam (one of the owners of the store) was welcoming and so happy to walk us through all their amazing products. You could instantly see how proud she was to be a locally based small business owner!
She explained that their dream of the store stemmed from her and her mother’s (Sherrie) handmade soy candles. I’m pretty sure Ash and I stood there and smelled every candle possible. After that I was fully committed to throwing out every yankee candle I had ever owned. I was shocked at how cheap they were too, 12 bucks for a amazing smelling candle?! Say whhaat! There was rows and rows of all kinds of scents! My fave? It had to be the smell of “Christmas Past”. It was super clean smelling but still had that holiday hint to it.
Urban Cottage has so many goodies for all kinds of people. The first thing that drew me in was the coffee mugs! Then I saw the hot chocolates and marshmallow packs! These delicious looking marshmallows from Mother Wilma’s Marshmallow Factory, come with about 12 marshmallows in a pack. Urban Cottage has around 4/5 different flavors (Uh Salted Carmel?! Yes please!). Perfect for the snowy days to come!
Ash and I both bought these super cute shirts from All Things By Audrey. (Her Etsy page can be found here.) She had some t-shirts and adorable bows on display, the “They whine I wine” t-shirts were so spot on! Sadly I wasn’t quick enough to be able to get my size, BUT the awesome thing about this place is that they take custom orders! Anything you see in the store, they are able to custom order or modify to your hearts desire! So basically heaven on earth really does exist!
They have a TON of holiday items, with more on the way! Rae Dunn inspired christmas ordainments, farmhouse christmas signs and vintage decor. Gift certificates are also available here. To all my family reading this, yes this is a *hint*!
On November 17th they are hosting a Holiday Preview Party. Special discounts, door prizes, wine slushies (they had us at wine slushies), flower bar and lot’s of holiday goodies will be showcased. This event is for adults only (21 and up). Send your request to email@example.com. They have limited space, so be sure to hurry and request your invitation today!
We spent about an hour in this store just really loving everything here. Our opinion? Best place to find a WIDE range of items for extremely fair prices by some of the craftiest local artists. Go give them a look, you won’t be disappointed! Welll maybe just your husbands, so ladies keep the bags in the car and bring them in one by one! – You know the drill.
